The National Vaccine Institute recently organized a consultation meeting on “Strengthening Vaccine Registration for COVID-19 in Thailand” as a forum to exchange knowledge and perspectives on key issues between national regulatory authorities, national vaccine experts, and international vaccine experts on registration of vaccine formulas, as well as to strengthen capacity for regulatory authorities in Thailand.
On November 22-23, 2023 at the Asawin Grand Convention Hotel Bangkok, the National Vaccine Institute organized a consultation meeting on Strengthening Vaccine Registration for COVID-19 in Thailand through the support of the European Union and the World Health Organization. The opening ceremony was presided over by Mr. Gabriel Dayre, Attaché-Program Officer (Cooperation) – representing the European Union in Thailand, Dr. Richard Brown – Program Manager, Health Emergencies and AMR – representing WHO Thailand Country Office, and Dr. Nakorn Premsri, Director of the National Vaccine Institute.Participants at this meeting included over 60 representatives from national regulatory authorities, namely, the Thai Food and Drug Administration(FDA), the Department of Medical Sciences, the Ministry of Public Health, as well as vaccine experts.
The consultation meeting was honored to welcome Assoc. Prof. Pharmacist Maneewan Suksomsilp, Ph.D., a vaccine expert at the national level, as well as Dr. Pierre Démolis an expert supported by the World Health Organization to present key topics on vaccine registration, and to exchange knowledge and technical perspectives on the subject matter. The consultation meeting was supported through a project funded by the European Union: the South East Asia Health Pandemic Response and Preparedness programme, which is implemented by the WHO. Through this programme, the EU is contributing 20 million euros over three years (2021-2023) to support eight countries in the region (including Thailand) in the fight against COVID-19.
